A Smoky Mountain Engagement [almost 3 years ago but still]

I just got myself a scanner so I can start to preserve photos & documents for myself and my clients. My first batch were these instax photos from our last trip to the Smoky Mountains in 2023. This was the trip that Eric asked me to marry him on, spoiler alert…

I’ve been taking an instax camera with me on all my travels since about 2011, when my sister bought me my first instax mini. I eventually upgraded to the wide format because it gives it more of a classic instant film look, and you can get more detail. I don’t always write on the exposures but when I do, I’ve found the best is a sharpie ultra fine tip marker.

This trip started with pulling over for the sunset @ Rend Lake, spending a few days in Nashville, TN for a market called Crafty Bastards [I’d still like to go back with my photography, but who knows], then a week in a cabin in the Smokies. On one of the days we revisited the National Park, Eric asked me to marry him on the Oconaluftee Riverbed.

We also got to visit the Museum of the Cherokee People before we headed back home, and I still think about the things I learned about the Cherokee and the art that I saw years later. I highly suggest it being on the top of your list of places to visit while in the Smoky Mountains.
